The alarming increase in the number of children with Type-1 diabetes in the UAE underlines the urgent need for appropriate health care now and into early adulthood. Treatment for juvenile diabetes is complex and not perfect, and as yet there is no cure in sight. We believe that in unity lies strength; let us join forces and hold hands together through continuous education, determination and cooperation.Together we can make a difference !
"Sweetkidz is a non-profit support group in Dubai, UAE designed to empower parents of children with Type-1 diabetes. We have the active support of the Dubai Health Authority (DHA).
Founded in January 2003, our mission is to improve the lives of children affected by juvenile diabetes, and provide support and direction to their parents. The most accurate and up-to-date information on Type-1 diabetes designed to be useful for patients will be made available on a regular basis.
We provide a forum to bring together children with diabetes and their families, so that they can interact with each other and inspire each other to overcome the disease. Getting to know other children like themselves, can help them to come to grips with the daily injections and the blood tests that must now form an inevitable part of their lives.
Nutrition and lifestyle changes form an all important part in the everyday life of a child with diabetes. We aim to bring you regular features on the dietary adjustments required, and on how to keep track of carbs and nutritional values of food.
Living with diabetes can be hard…but it can be managed easily, with just a little planning and care. Very often, the outside world does not understand the special needs of children with Type-1 diabetes. Our vision is of a society where our little ones can blend effortlessly in their interactions with outside forces- school, daycare, family and friends…and can manage their healthcare needs as beautifully as they live their lives!"
